Can you tell me how your approach to the long drive swing differs (if it does) from the methodology utilized by the great Mike Austin and his proteges? Thanks
Steve,
I got to spend sometime with Bones( Mike Austin). He was clearly ahead of his time, however, he maximized distance with inferior equipment. Bones was a kinesiologist and tried to segment the swing by focusing on muscle movement and bone structure. I learned some great things from him.
So here is my answer. I believe that your arms can initiate motion more easily than the body. If you want to run faster, you pump your arms and everything speeds up. If I try to move my core/legs faster, and say that my arms will catch up, I feel out of sync. Therefore, I know that every teacher wants you to get better, I think that I am just simpler.
I truly believe golf is played by feel and my method is easy to develop that feel.
liked that one Bobby, i wonder if you can give me some information in close detail on how at address do you make sure that the club head is square do we line up the shaft with the top of the club head or the bottom and when the club head is at rest on the ground should their be an off set angle withe th shaft and the club head or straight as you look down at it, as i seem to be ajusting my gip all the time and not sure of what i am doing i do hit straight most of the time but not sure why , i hope you understand what i am trying to say but this has always troubled me thank you Barry.
Barry,
I hope I got this straight. First, at address, you have your own unique set up due to how you are built and where we find the bottom of your swing. So don’t worry so much about where the shaft is lined up. I suggest this, sole the club so it sits square. Do this to see what your club looks like soled square. Then with your feet narrow, place the club behind the ball squarely down your target line( you know how the club should look now) , separate your feet to Your width with proper alignment , and bombs away.
Leave your grip alone. Make sure your hands are comfortable and the club is square. Trust the rest of it to what you have learned .
